Coronavirus highlights: Phase 3 vaccination for 18+ started

In order to ramp up the covid-19 vaccine drive in the country, the government started registration for people above 18 from 28th April for the phase 3 covid-19 vaccination strategy launched on 1st May.

How is the vaccination campaign rolling out in India?

 Covid 19 vaccination drive was started in January, the first group to receive the vaccine were healthcare staffs and frontline workers. Despite being the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines,the country is facing an acute internal shortage. Amidst the explosion of cases and a fair bit of optimism India launched the third phase of vaccination for 600 million people but Cowin as the portal is known – couldn’t handle it and crashed.

What do we know about Covid 19 vaccines in India?

India has so far administered a 100 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, locally known as Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. Another homegrown vaccine is Covaxin produced by Bharat Biotech.Recently India moved a step up in its immunization drive and granted permission for the restricted use of Russian Covid 19 vaccine Sputnik V.

Desperate wait to get Covid jab gets longer in many states

Phase 3 vaccination drive postponed indefinitely in Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Kerala, Assam, karnatak and other states, the inoculation process failed to take off due to acute shortage in vaccines across India.

In Uttar Pradesh, Covid vaccination will be started from 10th of May 2021. UP CM Yogi Aditya Nath Stated that Covid vaccination drive will be conducted in 17 Municipal corporations and Gautam Budh Nagar area.
